The Thousand Kingdoms Podcast…
…is a free audio storytelling project set in the Vanayela Mahala, an Afro-Asiatic fantasy continent inhabited entirely by animals. Inspired by the spirit of classic animal tales such as The Jungle Book, as well as folklore and storytelling traditions from across Africa, Asia and the Indian Ocean world, the podcast explores a vast landscape stretching from frozen northern forests to southern mangroves, deserts, rivers and grasslands. Each season follows different characters and cultures, creating an interconnected collection of myths, adventures and folktales. Through stories featuring lesser-known animals rarely seen in Western children’s media, the project aims to spark curiosity about the natural world, encourage empathy for wildlife, and foster a love of storytelling. By making the podcast freely available, I hope to create an accessible imaginative space where children can encounter new landscapes, cultures and creatures while developing a deeper sense of wonder about the world around them.
